Awwww – thanks!

My Sock-ret Pal sent me an (early) birthday e-card! Thank you!!! It made my day because today was rather rough at work and I really needed the smile :o)

In related Sock-ret Pal news, everything has been set straight with my pal and I now have someone to spoil! Wooooo!

I’ve been working on Branching Out lately. I keep having issues counting stitches today and I think it’s because I was feeling a little stressed with the new changes going on at work. Turns out it’s pretty hard to follow a lace pattern when you’re mind is pre-occupied. I need a “mindless” project for times like this. One that I can just pick up and knit and not think too much about it. I miss having socks on the needles and at the moment I’m trying not to cast-on for any. I’m trying to hold out until I’ve got Branching Out done, but I don’t know if I can hold out much longer!

I’ve got two days off, which I’m quite thankful for! I’ve got a few things I want to pick out for my KTS 2 Pal so that I can get the package in the mail this coming week. I’m crossing my fingers and toes that what I’m waiting for in the mail will arrive on Monday so I can go to the post office and get the package in the mail since I work Tuesday to Saturday and I don’t want to have to wait until NEXT Monday to get it in the mail. We’ll see what happens.

No new or interesting knitting photos today, but I did see a really cute knitted sweater on a little girl today. It was ribbed and cabled. I thought it was really cute (even though it was something store bought) and for a moment wished I had a kid to knit for. I could knit something for Nathaniel, but what? He doesn’t wear scarfs or mittens. I already knit him a hat (which he loves and proudly shows off during colder months). I’ve thought about a sweater, but at the rate he’s growing, I’d have to make it rather large so that it fits him for more than a few months! And besides, you don’t knit cute things for a nearly 14 year old boy.

Alright, I’m back to knitting I go :o)

Hmmm…..

I know it’s only been a few days, but I must admit that I’m getting just a little bit worried. I haven’t heard from my Sock-ret Pal (no questionaire post and has not responded to my email). I’d love to get started on a package, but I don’t want to until I know what their preferences are.

When should one begin to worry?

Edited: hehe, my Sock-ret Pal has contacted me :o) Silly me thought I allowed anyone to comment on my blog here, but I forgot that I had changed my settings when I was getting spammed quite a bit (even with word verification!!). I have changed it to allow anonymous comments. Still a little worried about the person I’m to spoil, though!

My Favorite Tea Mug

In spirit of KTS 2, this is my favorite mug:

Come to think of it, it’s the only one that belongs to ME. I suppose I’m a little bit possessive at times. I like certain things to belong to me “only.” I love See’s Candies and it wasn’t until recently that I was able to get them at a store and not through mail order. I grew up going to See’s Candy shops in California. They’re in a lot of malls and I remember being able to pick out a piece of chocolate when we went. I love their lollypops too – most especially their Butterscotch Lollypops. I remember getting a box for Valentine’s Day from my Grandpa. Needless to say, there’s a lot of memories attached! When I sit down with this mug and some of my favorite tea, I get a warm feeling inside with all the fond memories. Calming and relaxing.

In the Pond

Looks like I’ll be going back to the Frogg Pond.

The Baudelaire Socks aren’t turning out right. When I started them, it kept nagging at me that the gauge wasn’t quite right. I needed US 1.5 needles since the US 2’s were too big and the US 1’s seemed a bit small. I went on anyhow and now after I’ve turned the heel and am working on the leg, I’m having a very difficult time getting them on over my heel. *sigh*

I don’t see any way out of frogging these and I’m thinking I’m going to make a simple ribbed pair of socks with the yarn. I can’t bear to frogg it tonight… it’ll be a job left for tomorrow. In the meantime, I’ll be taking Icarus to work with me to knit on my break times.

Sock-ret Pal Questionnaire

The basics:
How long have you been knitting? About 3 years.
Do you consider yourself a beginning sock knitter, an intermediate, or have you been doing this so long you could probably knit a pair in your sleep? I could probably do it in my sleep even though I’ve only completed 3 pairs of socks (and working on my 4th)…. perhaps intermediate leaning towards advanced.
The measurements:
While your pal may ask for some additional info to ensure a great fit, please provide your shoe size, or any other fitting related info you think is pertinent. I’m a US size 7 wide shoe. As for measurements, I’m 8 in (22 cm) at the widest part and 9 in (23 cm) from toe to heel. If you need more than that, let me know :o)

(fiber related) Favorites:
What colors do you love? Pink, purple, blueish greens, pastels (all colors), fall/autumn colors, red (all sorts of shades, but nothing too bright)
Do you prefer solids or variegated? I’d say both, leaning more toward solids. I like solids with lighter and darker shades of the same color (if that makes sense).
What fibers do you most love to knit with? Natural fibers (with the exception of angora because of allergies). I knit with quite a bit of wool. Cashmere and silk blends. Soft yarns (I know some people like knitting with yarn that’s a little scratchy – not me!).
Who do you consider your favorite yarn vendors? Hmmm… A few of the ones I like Debbie Bliss and Rowan yarns and of course Noro, Cherry Tree Hill, Lorna’s Laces, Knit Picks, and Elann.
What projects (other than socks, of course*S*) do you most enjoy knitting? Lace, felted projects, cables, fair isle… anything that’s complex and interesting so that it holds my interest.

(fiber related) Dislikes:
What fibers can you not stand to knit with? To wear? Angora (allergies!), itchy wool, acrylic (feels like plastic in my hands), mohair, any sort of novelty yarns (fun fur, eyelash yarn, etc)
What colors would you never wear? Neon colors or black (I really don’t wear much black at all).

The Tools:
Plastic or Metal? Bamboo or wood? Bamboo all the way.
Circs or Straights? Depends on the project, but I’d say I use circs more.
DPNs or Magic Loop? DPNs. I haven’t mastered the Magic Loop and I can’t say I’m that interested to.
Are there any knitting accessories you don’t have in your collection but would like? Some nice stitch markers for socks/lace. Most of the ones I have are just too big for such small projects. A better way to store the necessities would be nice. A retractable tape measure.

The Extras:
Do you have a wish list? If so, please share the link! I have multiple wish-type lists: My Amazon Wishlist, My Amazon Knitting Wishlist, and My Wists List
Do you like sweet, sour or salty? (or all of the above? *S*) All of the above! But I suppose it really depends on my mood. Usually I’ll want something sweet followed by something salty.
Do you have any allergies your pal should know about? (Certain foods, smoke, pet hair, etc) Angora, rabbits (yes I know angora is the same, but there’s severe bunny allergies in my home), cats, dogs, and smoke.
Favorite scents? Scents you can’t stand? I don’t like strong scents. I do like light fruity scents, vanilla, and rose.
Do you collect anything (other than yarn and knitting toys of course)? Postcards, Military Challenge Coins (mostly US Navy ones), and Build-A-Bear stuffed animals.
When is your birthday? (month and day is fine!) October 2nd. I’ll be 25 this coming Monday.
Do you spin? Dye your own yarn? I’ve tried my hand at spinning and I’d love someone to teach me how to do it better (with a drop spindle) and I keep meaning to get around to trying to dye yarn with kool-aid, but I’ve not found much of a selection of kool-aid around here.
Your favorite author/band/vacation spot, anything you think will help your pal know you better… This is my About page. I’m sure it will help my pal quite a bit :o)

And it’s come undone….

This:

Is now this:

Yup. I frogged the whole thing. Since I completed it, it’s just been sitting with my yarn stash. For a while it’s been nagging me to make into something I would actually wear. I’m thinking of making it into Anthropologie-inspired Capelet. I haven’t decided for certain yet. We’ll see.

Here’s a progress photo of my Baudelaire Socks:

Don’t have one of Rogue… I’m waiting until the hood is done before I post another photo. Icarus doesn’t look much different from before – just bigger. I haven’t worked on I Do in a long time…. I really need to get going on that. Turns out that I don’t like working with 100% silk as much as I thought I would. I’m also worried that it won’t be as big as it needs to be. I may just try and find another pattern to use. I’ll probably just keep knitting it and hoping for the best. I haven’t picked up Branching out in a long, long time. I suppose I just feel like I don’t need another scarf I won’t wear and I’m not sure if I could gift it to anyone (come to think of it, I could probably gift it to Nick’s mom).

In swapping news, I’ve got my KTS 2 pal’s stuff in order. I just have to wait on a few things in the mail then I can get it off to my pal. I hope she’ll like everything! I had a hard time with the “snack” portion of it, but I think I’ve done well :o)

Alright, gotta get some things in order for work tomorrow (joy of joys). Later all!

Headband Photos

Here’s the headband I made for my sister:

I’m currently working on an argyle headband:

~~~~~
I’m working on the hood for Rogue. I’ve been too tired and lazy to take photos, but it’s moving right along. Been working on the Baudelaire socks on my breaks at work so I get a few rows done every day. Nearly done with the first sock. When I’m finally feeling rested up, I will post photos of both. Most likely Monday when the house is nice and quiet :o)
~~~~~

Gearing up for the KTS 2. Gotta get to work since I got news of who my partner is today. Must start blog stalking ;o)

I need to get a post up over there as well since I never did “Flash My Stash”…. Like I said, though…. I’ve been lazy! Okay, I’m going to go relax a bit and finish my cup of Tazo Awake tea.

It’s nice to have an FO again!

I finally finished something. It feels like it’s been so long since I’ve had an FO, I was beginning to think I forgot what it was like! I decided on making a headband for my sister for her birthday, which was yesterday, but I thought about it very last minute and figured it’d be quick enough that I could get it in her birthday package that I’ll be sending out tomorrow (I know, bad sister! But I work Tuesday to Saturday when the post office is open and it wasn’t ready for the mail this past Monday, so it goes out tomorrow.). After playing with some different ideas on what sort of design to put on it, I finally settled on something that I think looks good. It only took me a few hours to finish once I decided on the design. Quick, easy, and didn’t use much yarn. I knit most of it while we were watching a free movie preview of The Guardian on base tonight. We were close enough to the screen that I could see when I needed to, but since I usually knit without looking anyhow, I didn’t really need it. It’s blocking right now and I won’t post photos until she gets it (just in case she actually does read this here blog).

I’m done with the body of Rogue. I’ll soon be starting the hood. Pictures soon.

I took over someone’s knitting project at work. It’s a tank top. She said she can’t figure out how to pick up stitches for the neck and arm bands and asked if I would do it. I said I would, not knowing that it hadn’t been sewn together yet either. Shame on me for not looking! Anyhow, I got some practice seaming things – something I haven’t really done much of. I think it came out pretty good. I’m nearly done with the whole thing… I just have one arm band left.

Icarus hasn’t see much love lately. I’ve knit a few rows here and there, but not much. Same goes for my Baudelaire socks. I suppose I’ve just been spending a lot more time reading than knitting (scary!!). I know I still do a good amount of knitting, but not as much as when I wasn’t working. Don’t get me wrong – I’m glad I’m working – but it leaves less time to knit some days!

Alright… back to that tank top!

Rogue Photos

The new Fall Knitty is up and I’ve already decided on a few things I’d like to make! I really like how they’ve done a lot of socks in their recent issues.

Here’s some Rogue progress:

And the side cable:

I’m thinking about making the bag seen in this post, but in solid red. I don’t know why, but I’ve had an obsession with having a red bag lately. I love cables and I’d like to try making a knit bag with a sewn in lining. Seems like now is as good as a time as any to make one!

Now I just must resist casting on for every project in the new Knitty that I love! One thing at a time….

Progress

I’ve made quite a bit of progress on Rogue over the last week and a half. I have the whole of the back completed and am working the front and Chart B now. I don’t expect it will be too long before I’m done with it!

I’ve also been working more on Baudelaire socks. I’ve turned the heel on the first sock. I don’t know if I like how it looks with the yarn I’m using, but to hell with it. I’m gonna finish them and they’ll be lovely.
